Katelyn

Q: When did you first meet and how?

A: My fiancé and I met in medical school. We were both living in different states and moved to attend medical school on the East Coast. What makes our meeting so interesting is that we both were applying to medical school the year prior to when we were accepted. He was accepted to the school we attend, but deferred his attendance by another year so that he could work for one more year at his job. That same year, I chose not to submit my medical school application but just wait another year to apply. The second time I applied, I added our school on a whim, almost did not attend my interview day, but the universe was sending me a message that it had different plans for me! Right place, right timing, and the universe brought us together!

Q: What about the design made you choose this ring to be the one?
A: We took a vacation to New York during our third-year winter vacation where we saw a beautiful cathedral that we both fell in love with. The design for the ring is inspired by the window pane of the cathedral.

Q: In each your own words, can you describe what the days leading up to the proposal were like? Can you tell us about the proposal? (Feel free to be as detailed as possible!)

A:
Over one weekend we were celebrating his most recent accomplishment at a beautiful beach and fancy hotel. He recently won an award and was given a scholarship to attend a nice conference for surgeons. We decided to go to the conference, but mostly enjoy the sunset on the beach and wonderful scenery. As we were walking down to the beach, he became very quiet and I noticed he was walking very slowly. I decided to walk ahead of him to get my feet in the sand, but right when I turned around – there he was on one knee with my beautiful, custom designed ring in hand! Of course, he cried. But it was a beautiful and exciting moment filled with love and joy. We spend a lot of our time on the beach, so a beautiful beach proposal was fitting for our relationship.

Q: How was your overall experience with Fire & Brilliance?

A: Fantastic! I found your website about a year ago, when he first told me to start figuring out what designs I liked. I knew I wanted something simple and classy, and he knew he wanted the freedom to customize the ring. F&B was a perfect option for us because the designs are clean and unique. He contacted one other company, but he didn’t like working with them and immediately switched to F&B. The other company was also not capable of creating the beautiful basket that is on my ring.

Lastly, we wanted to ask something of each our clients to be featured a question that is unique to their story.

Q: What defines a working, loving, and lasting relationship?

A: Honesty, open-ness and understanding. It’s easy to fall in love with someone because they buy you nice things or make you laugh, but a truly lasting relationship takes work. Getting to know the soul you’re in love with like the back of your hand, knowing what they’re feeling all the time and staying connected creates bonds that you can’t find anywhere else. Understanding one another and each other’s perspective is necessary in making a relationship work. You don’t always need to agree with each other, but to respect and understand each other’s point of view is essential. Lastly, stay young and be playful! The key to staying in the honeymoon phase is being nice to one another and keeping a youthful heart!
