Joe & Shawna
Q: When did you first meet and how?
A: A couple years after I was out of high school he went on a couple dates with my best friend. We had never met or talked but I friend requested him on Facebook anyways, he accepted. We finally had our first conversation 5 years later after he liked one of the pictures I posted. He was very shy and barely said anything even though we weren't face to face but he did eventually ask me out. We went fishing; I lost his hook, we didn't catch anything and were eaten alive by bugs! We gave up and went to our town beach to sit and talk. We've been inseparable since then.
Q: What about the design made you choose this ring to be the one?
A: My ring is a 3 carat round 6-prong rose gold solitaire ring. I absolutely love it!! I spent months on the site looking at all the ring options. I knew that I wanted my engagement ring to be bigger than any of my current rings and also to look completely different. I wanted it to stand out!
We went to Jared's Galleria to try on the different styles I liked to see what looked good in person. I had assumed that Jared's would have a good selection since you can design your own ring there, I was wrong! I was very straight forward with the woman helping us. I told her I was getting a moissanite and I was only there to try on different styles, sizes and shapes to see what I liked best. She tried talking me out of my decision the entire time we were there and then proceeded to put us in a $10,000 ring! The only thing we got out of the appointment was that we liked a round stone better than oval. So that night I made my decision and wrote everything down for Joe.
Q: In each your own words, can you describe what the days leading up to the proposal were like? Can you tell us about the proposal?
A: Shawna - For me it was just like any other week. It was a little busier than normal, we pretty much had something going on every night except for Friday so I was more than ready to start my weekend!! I got home from work and Joe asked if I wanted to take the dog for a walk since the rain had finally stopped. There was nothing out of the usual on our walk, we talked about work and what we had planned for the weekend and threw sticks for the dog so she could go swimming in the brook. On our way back to the house, we stopped at the last bridge and I threw a stick for the dog. I remember being worried about the current being too strong. I turned around to ask Joe and he was down on one knee asking me to marry him!! My first thought was it was a joke, I had waited so long for him to ask that it didn't seem real, I was in shock. Then I saw the ring!! The rest of the weekend, I was completely worthless. I couldn't concentrate on anything, I had to answer a million questions and I couldn't stop staring at my ring, and to be honest I still can't.
Joe - I was nervous and trying to figure out how to ask. I had originally wanted to ask when we went on vacation in August but I couldn't wait that long. So we went for a walk, we approached the first bridge too soon so we kept walking and by the time we reached the last bridge I had finally convinced her to throw the dog a stick. Then I got down on one knee and the rest was a blur.
Q: How your overall experience with Fire & Brilliance?
A: Amazing!!! I am so grateful that we found them! It is always a little nerve-wracking buying something so expensive online not having seen it in person, but all the reviews were wonderful and all my research on moissanite stones alone had me convinced. I don't know why anyone would want, in my opinion, an inferior stone for 10x more money. There is no comparison.
I would never have believed that I could have such a beautiful ring and have it be so affordable!! It is a dream come true. Everyone at work is talking about it, people keep coming up to me saying “everyone is talking about your ring, I have to see it”. People are so amazed at how clear and sparkly it is! Only our close friends and family know the truth, everyone else assumes we paid $15,000. I love it so much, it is gorgeous and truly timeless. I can't stop thanking my fiance for getting it for me.
Lastly, we wanted to ask something of each our clients to be featured a question that is unique to their story.
Q: What is the key to a loving and lasting relationship?
A: Shawna - I think the most important aspect is to treat each other with love. No matter the moment or your feelings in the moment, your words and actions will last longer than any of those. Also communication, you cannot assume the other person knows how you feel unless you tell them, flat out, no games. Just be up front and transparent.
Joe - Be yourself. I have learned that you cannot be self-centered. You must consider the other person you are with and how they will feel. Be romantic and plan nice things for one another. When you find the one you will know.
