Marc & Bree

Q: When did you first meet and how?

A: One of my best friends from college, MJ, introduced the two of us. MJ and Marc (my fiancé) were childhood friends, so when Mj and I moved back home to Hawaii, the three of us would spend time together often. Marc and I instantly clicked because of our shared passion for surfing, photography, the outdoors, and music. We eventually became best friends, then gradually started to develop feelings for one another.

Q: What about the design made you choose this ring to be the one?

A: Originally, Marc proposed to me with my "dream ring"... however, a few months later I realized the ring would not be durable enough for my lifestyle (I work with kids and am fairly active). I had an idea of what I wanted in terms of design, but wanted to involve Marc in the process as much as possible. Because I chose to customize my ring, we were given the unique opportunity to collaborate on the design- which was such a meaningful experience. Marc chose the marquise shape, which I instantly fell in love with because of its unique yet vintage quality, and I designed the dimensions and shape of my ring.

Q: In each your own words, can you describe what the days leading up to the proposal were like? Can you tell us about the proposal? (Feel free to be as detailed as possible!)

A: We were vacationing in the Philippines when he proposed. He originally planned to take me canyoneering and propose at the waterfall located at the end of the canyon. As we started to reach the end of the hike, he started to get really quiet. Being completely oblivious to what was happening, I interpreted his silence as a sign that he needed to “take a nap” (haha) and suggested that we go back to the hotel. We went back to the hotel, napped, and when I woke up he proposed. It was simple and intimate. He mentioned that he got too nervous at the waterfall and didn’t feel it was right to propose in front of all the tourists. Now looking back at the proposal, I’m soooo grateful that he didn’t.Q: How was your overall experience with Fire & Brilliance? How did you first hear about us?

A: Fantastic. When shopping around at different stores, I hadn’t seen ready-made designs that stood out to me so I knew I would probably end up custom designing my ring. I attempted customizing a ring with other companies, however, they were never able to find the exact stone, coloring, or shape I had envisioned. F&B worked with Chatham and was able to design my dream stone right away! I was initially apprehensive about designing my ring online, especially being that I knew exactly what I wanted, however Rachel listened to all of my concerns and worked with me for months until my ring was exactly how I envisioned it to be. She was so patient despite my detail-oriented personality, and I knew she would work with me until I was completely satisfied with the design.

Lastly, we wanted to ask something of each our clients (for yourself or for both of you to answer) to be featured a question that is unique to their story.
Q: What color of the rainbow reminds you of your partner and why?

A: Blue. Not only is it both of our favorite colors, but Marc has a dependable, calming, adventurous, yet kind spirit. He is incredibly steadfast in his identity; doing life alongside him gives me a greater sense of stability.
