Why do so many people buy VS1 and VS2 graded natural and lab-grown diamonds?

A VS diamond has a high clarity grade which stands for “very slight inclusion.”

What are inclusions? Inclusions are imperfections, chips, cracks, clouds and minerals trapped in or on the surface of a gemstone which can affect the diamond's appearance and value. VS indicates that there are very small inclusions or blemishes that are difficult to see under 10x magnification.

VS1 and VS2 diamonds are one of the more popular clarity grades due to many factors.

  1. The inclusions in VS diamonds are so small and difficult to see that they have minimal impact on the diamond's appearance.
  2. They are also rarer than lower clarity grade diamonds, which can make them more valuable.
  3. It is much more affordable than VVS, Internally Flawless and Flawless gemstones making it a happy medium.

When purchasing a VS1 or VS2 diamond, it's important to consider the other characteristics of the diamond, such as its cut, color, and carat weight. The cut of a diamond refers to its proportions, which can affect its brilliance and sparkle. The color of a diamond refers to the presence of any tints or hues, with the most valuable diamonds being completely colorless. The carat weight of a diamond refers to its size, with larger diamonds generally being more valuable.

With that in mind, the perk of purchasing VS1 and VS2 diamonds is for those that wish to upgrade the other 3 of the “4 Cs.” One may desire a larger carat size with a higher color and cut grade without sacrificing the clarity by going with a VS. Again, a VS graded diamond is a happy medium that most people are satisfied with.

Would you rock a VS1 or VS2?
